Picture a dragonfly free-floating in the lightness of a summer breeze.
Feel its intensity?
Sense its freedom?
Dragonflies arrive suddenly, suspend themselves unmoving in your eyesight, and tantalize you with colors – blues and greens and blacks – iridescence and shine.
Then, as quickly as they appeared, they are gone.
Dragonflies are good luck. They have been in existence for 3 million years and they still share their beauty with us every summer.
When I first moved into my current house, I used to go down to the floating dock and lie there, floating quietly in the sun and enjoying the airiness of floating. And suddenly there would appear a dragonfly out of nowhere, hovering noiselessly above me – so close but untouchable. So beautiful in its dragonfly colors and design – dazzling. I think that’s the word I’ve been searching for – dazzling in its intensity aligned with utter simplicity.
Maybe that’s what I’m reaching toward in my art work – that intensity of color aligned with simplicity of style.
Dragonflies inspire me, besides the fact that they fascinate me, captivate me, and in the end, brighten the day and feed my spirit.
I hope you can look at my alcohol ink works with that kind of anticipation and reward. They are creations that come to me unbidden and sometimes resemble the quiet patience of the dragonfly’s hovering, sometimes arise out of the myriad of colored inks like the colors of the dragonfly’s wings.
I hope you see the colors and the designs as ways to reach out into the air and see beauty.
Welcome to Dragonfly’s Wings! Enjoy the adventure with me. Find the piece that speaks to you – of freedom, of brilliance, of color mingling with color and shade.
And please let me know which of the pieces makes a connection for you.
Enjoy – Lynne
